Here is some information I have found about 5 famous rivers around the world.

River Name
Location
Source
Exit point
How is the river currently used?
How did/do the indigenous
population use the river?

Human Impact
Murray
Australia
The Australian Alps, NSW
Southern Ocean(Indian Ocean), Corowa, South Australia
The Murray valley contains almost all of Australia's irrigated land; vines, fruits, and vegetables are grown. The Murray River is used primarily for irrigation and has many hydroelectric plants and reservoirs, including Hume Reservoir.
The Aboriginal people used the river to travel along to trade between different tribes and communities. They also used it for fishing, getting water to drink, and sometimes for the children to play and swim in.
People are draining water from it and are building dams which stop some people further down the Murray river from having water.
Nile
Egypt
Lake Victoria in Burundi
Meditteranean Sea
Farmers produce a wide variety of crops, including citrus fruits, cotton, wheat, sugarcane, legumes and sorghum.
The ancient Egyptians used the Nile River to water their crops when it flooded. Anyone who died in the Nile River was made into a minor God.
The Nile does not flood today because in 1970 the Aswan Dam was built.
Ob-irtyish
Russia
Altai Mountains
The Gulf of Ob
The Ob is an important source of hydroelectric power and one of Siberia’s major transportation routes during the six months of the year when it is not frozen.
The indigenous Russians used the Ob River for fishing.
Theriver's fish industries, that are famous for their great productivity, have been damaged by pollution, part of it from nuclear waste.

Mississippi
Usa
Montana
Gulf of Mexico
Millions of people use the Mississippi River for Recreation. On average 175 million tons of freight are shipped each year on the Upper Mississippi.
The Native Americans of different tribes who originally lived near the Mississippi and used it for canoe transportation, hunting and fishing often viewed the great river as the center of the universe.
The Human impact on the Mississippi river are that humans are polluting it and building dams etc,etc
Amazon
South America
Lauricocha Lake in The Andes Mountains
Atlantic Ocean
(off Brazil)
People use it for fishing, washing and drinking (they need to be careful of the pirahnas though!). They also use it for transportation.
Indian tribes used the Amazon River for agriculture (farming) and transportation.
Water Buffalo have been introduced to the area, even though they are not native, and this is causing damage to the vegetation and fish nurseries of the Amazon. People have been catching too many fish and this has caused fish species to drop dangerously in their numbers.

This is my powerpoint about the Murray River's salinity problem!

This is my 2 create a story on the Aboriginal legend about how the Murray River came to exist.

This is some information I have found at Sydney Water about water usage in the last 30 years, especially the last 18 years (from 1991 to 2008). As well as the information I have also analysed the information from the graphs myself.
